Rabbi Ilana Schwartzman serves Beth Haverim Shir Shalom in Northern New Jersey. She is devoted to making Judaism accessible. In addition to Judaism and sacred texts, she has a great love for people and their stories. Prior to serving at BHSS, Rabbi Ilana was at Congregation Kol Ami in Salt Lake City, Utah for 8 years. Her first rabbinic position was at Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo, New York. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Virginia and she studied Hebrew at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva. She was ordained in 2007 from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Rabbi Ilana is a third-generation rabbi. Her grandfather Rabbi Sylvan Schwartzman (z”l) was at the forefront of Reform Jewish education and her father Rabbi Joel Schwartzman has served as an Air Force chaplain and congregational rabbi. Rabbi Ilana shares her life with her husband and daughter.
