Jesse Epstein is a fourth year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (NY). Jesse volunteers on the supervisory team of a community Soup Kitchen at HUC and continues to develop Torah and Tourniquets©, a textual bleeding-control workshop he created that combines his EMT background with his passion for Jewish learning. He has served as a Chaplain Intern in Lenox Hill Hospital’s Cardiothoracic ICU, Rabbinic Intern at Northeastern University Hillel, and Student Rabbi at Temple Sinai (Saratoga Springs, NY), and is currently the Rabbinic Intern at North Shore Synagogue (Syosset, NY).
Jesse believes taking risks and pursuing big ideas are essential to Jewish meaning-making in today’s ever-changing world. Through the relaunch of his beer brand, Shmaltz Brewing Company®, Jesse aims to nourish community members with Jewish culture, text, and tradition via the conduit of good beer.
Shmaltz Brewing Company existed for 25 years as a Jewish beer brand dedicated to its core values of “Quality, Community and Shtick.” Jesse looks forward to using the fun, approachable, and familiar setting of the beer world and brewing industry to expand upon these original core values while offering opportunities for authentic and meaningful learning, dialogue, and justice.
