Rabbi Jill Avrin

Back

Rabbi Jill Avrin grew up in an unaffiliated and interfaith family where Judaism was expressed culturally, and exclusively in the home. Her first introduction to organized Judaism was in High School, through BBYO. She immediately realized her upbringing was different and dreamt of becoming a rabbi to serve people like her.

Jill was ordained from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (NY) in 2013 and fell in love with the Twin Cities Jewish community through her work at Bet Shalom Congregation. After 10 years in the pulpit, and over 20 years entrenched in Institutional Judaism, she is excited to return to the dream that originally led her to the rabbinate through the co-founding of YourJewish.

Jill’s fellowship project, YourJewish, is an emerging nonprofit organization in the Twin Cities whose purpose is to meet people where they are on their Jewish Journey, validate their varied approaches to Jewish life, and deepen their connections to Judaism through community events, rituals, immersive travel, and spiritual direction.

Her life outside of work is filled and fulfilled by her children Ariella, Asher, and Emmett, her partner Jake, and through running, hiking, baking, and art. She sees beauty in every soul and is committed to making the world more just.
