Northern New Jersey Rabbinic (re)Design Fellowship

Rabbi Steven Sirbu has spent the last twenty years at Temple Emeth innovating in aspects of congregational life such as worship, community relations, and youth programming.

A native of Oakland, Steven grew up in the Reform movement, attending Camp Swig and NFTY regional events. Rabbi Sirbu has placed an emphasis on racial justice in his rabbinate. In 2015, he was one of the CCAR members who marched in the Journey for Justice. He is a member of the New Jersey Social Justice Remembrance Coalition which partnered with the Equal Justice Initiative to commemorate New Jersey’s only documented racial terror lynching in 1886. And he serves on the RAC-NJ task force on school integration.

Before receiving his ordination from HUC-JIR in 1998, Rabbi Sirbu earned a B.A. in political science from UCLA. He remains an avid Bruins fan and is an active member of the UCLA Alumni of NYC Book Club.
