Join us this summer to strengthen the core leadership capacities required to navigate and sustain contemporary Jewish communities.

This series will focus on the “work beneath the work” of the rabbinate: how rabbis navigate institutions, build shared leadership, and sustain their communities over time.

About the Sessions

Session 1: Navigating Power: Managing Up and Across

Explore how to operate within institutional systems: working with boards, senior leadership, and peers.

Focus areas include:

  • Mapping stakeholders and power dynamics
  • Managing up with clarity and confidence
  • Navigating competing priorities while maintaining voice and agency
Session 2: Sharing Leadership: Building with Lay Partner

Learn to cultivate strong, sustainable partnerships with lay leaders as a core leadership practice.

Focus areas include:

  • Models of shared leadership across different community contexts
  • Lay leadership as a driver of engagement and innovation
  • Building cultures of distributed ownership and accountability
Session 3: Resourcing the Vision: Fundraising as Rabbinic Practice

Learn how to reframe fundraising as an integral, relational dimension of rabbinic leadership.

Focus areas include:

  • The rabbi’s role in development and donor engagement
  • Connecting vision, storytelling, and financial sustainability
  • Practical approaches to cultivating and sustaining donor relationships

About the Facilitator

Jennifer Moses currently is a Rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, and this year was the Rabbinical Intern for Aspen Jewish Congregation. Last year she was the student Rabbi at Congregation Sukkat Shalom in Juneau. Prior to Rabbinical school, her career combined finance and public policy in the United States and abroad. Jennifer was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs, served as Chief Executive Officer of the British policy think tank Centre Forum, and was a Senior Policy Adviser to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, helping to restructure the British banking sector during the financial crisis of 2008‑2009.

She also co-founded Caliber Schools, a charter school management organization in the San Francisco Bay Area dedicated to improving educational outcomes for historically underserved children. She was CEO for the first seven years. This follows her work as a co-founder of ARK, one of the largest children’s charities in the United Kingdom, and King Solomon Academy, an inner-city charter school in London that is one of the top non‑selective schools in the country.  

Jennifer sits on the Board of  Brown University, where she chaired the Budget & Finance Committee and was co-Chair of the Brown Annual Fund.  She formerly was a Board Member of Rothschild & Co, Aspen Jewish Congregation,  The Kitchen SF and Hillel International. She holds a BA from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard University. Jennifer is married and has three grown children and a grandchild.
