The Center for Applied Torah (CAT) is Atra’s newest cohort-based program, designed for rabbis to try on new approaches and expand their comfort with experimentation so they’re able to revitalize deep engagement with Jewish tradition in ways that resonate with modern communities.
Throughout this experience, rabbis will:
Learn with and from a community of peers who have shared values and aspirations (and sometimes divergent perspectives)
Explore Jewish content and tradition as a tool for leadership in their communities
Gain practical new skills and encouragement to test new approaches in their communities
Feel part of a peer-community that’s equal parts supportive and challenging as they exercise the courage to try new things
Have spaciousness to recharge and feel more equipped to sustain themselves in the midst of challenging work.
Program components:
Content sessions: Virtual sessions that help Rabbis interrogate a particular topic & consider its relevance to their own work as Jewish spiritual leaders.
Community of action and practice: A peer-led learning space where rabbis experiment and do differently together—so their communities can do differently too.
Each cohort focuses on a core area of Jewish practice, such as shabbat, kashrut, mikvah, or mourning.
